SAN MARCOS DE COLON MUNICIPALITY

APPROVED BY MUNICIPAL AND DEPARTMENT AUTHORITIES

INTRODUCTION:

The community of Pueblo Nuevo, San Marcos de Colon in the Choluteca Department has carried out a study of the local needs (diagnostic) and has confirmed through the same that one of our greatest problems in the lack of water.
The precious liquid is totally unavailable during the dry season and this has led us to submit the proposal in search of collaboration to make our dream a reality.

SPECIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM:

Our community has always had the availability of a small watershed to supply the most basic of our water needs but due to the growth of the community and the environmental deterioration, it is not enough to cover these needs. In addition to the contamination because it is unprotected, we must go to the watershed at dawn in order to obtain a small amount of water before it is visited by other neighboring communities and neighbors. For the local population to wash and obtain the water needed for the most basic of tasks, we must walk 2.5 kilometers to the nearest watershed. This is a dangerous trip and the watershed is difficult to access and we therefore consider this a priority need for the community members.

JUSTIFICATION:

The above situation has always affected us but it worsens by the day because our population is growing. This problem brings alone a series of other difficulties among which are the reduction of the agricultural production, decrease in the production of milk, diseases especially among boys, girls and women – diarrhea episodes and nausea and vomiting, among others - and discomfort and conflicts among the neighbors. The small amount of water is ill managed, and the majority is hauled by the children and there is no due treatment of the water. We firmly believe that by solving this problem that affects so many people, it would be the first step to solving other problems that we have because of the unity and strengthening of our local organizations.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

  • Identification of the watersheds
  • Construction of a water distribution storage and distribution tank
  • Distribution network (pipes)
  • Project maintenance

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

To have a water tap in each of the households

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

  • Seek economic support for construction and maintenance
  • Availability of a system to have water that is apt for human consumption
  • Raise awareness in the users of this service

GOALS:

  • 32 families will directly benefit from this water project, totaling 502 persons
  • Gastrointestinal diseases will be reduced in each of the benefit families
  • The daily food diet will improve in each of the families through the family vegetable gardens or yard crops
  • Nurseries, seedlings and reforestation in the area
  • Children and women will not have to make the sacrifice of hauling water

PROJECT FEASIBILITY:

We consider the project to be feasible because of the following reasons:

  • As organized persons, we are certain that the State has the obligation to provide the economic support that is available through the external debt that was condoned and due to the fact that this is not the only need we have in the community but also because it was prioritized by the community members
  • By legal mandate, it is the obligation of our municipal authorities to provide the support for our project.

BUDGET:

A budget cannot be provided at the moment because of not knowing how deep the water level is found.

We are assuming the perforation of wells because there are no watersheds or other surface water sources in our community to supply water to the local population.
