PROJECT NAME:
‘School Construction Proposal’

PERIOD: 2005 – 2007

REQUESTING ORGANIZATION:
‘NUEVA ESPERANZA (NEW HOPE)
WOMEN’S GROUP

COMMUNITY: EL GUAYLO
SAN MARCOS DE COLON MUNICIPALITY
CHOLUTECA DEPARTMENT

SUBMITTED TO THE MUNICIPAL AND DEPARTMENT GOVERNMENTS

SEPTEMBER 27, 2005

INTRODUCTION:

The Guaylo community in San Marcos de Colon located in the Choluteca Department has undergone a study that was carried out with involvement of the community grass roots. Through the thorough analysis of the study, we were able to verify the need of a school center that is the purpose of our proposal.

SPECIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM:

For many years, we, the inhabitants of this community, have felt the need of a school because the children must walk three kilometers to the nearest education center and run the risk of crossing several streams that grow wider and deeper during the seasonal rains. This school would directly benefit 60 boys and girls. Therefore, we are submitting this proposal to let you know of our concern.

JUSTIFICATION:

The above situation directly affects the inhabitants of this community and we therefore think  that the authorities should consider its urgency because the lack of a school in the area puts the lives of our children at risk. If the proposal is approved, the members of this community will have quality education.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The project consists of the following:

  1. Conduct a study to detect the amount of materials that will be needed to build the school
  2. Cinder blocks
  3. Iron rods
  4. Gutters
  5. Fiber roof tiles
  6. Cement
  7. Sand
  8. The support of community members in whatever tasks fit our skills
  9. Socialization of the project to make the school sustainable.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

Improve the education conditions and situation of the community.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE:

Build a community school, upheld by the municipal authorities and the live forces or grass roots of the community.

GOALS:

Fifty families will be benefited by the availability of this school.

  • The community’s development will be more visible
  • Education in the municipality will improve
  • The community has sufficient interest and children to upscale the number of children that receive an education

PROJECT FEASIBILITY:

We consider that the project is feasible due to the following reasons:

  • The community feels the need for this project
  • The need of a school was prioritized by the community live forces
  • The State has the funds to meet the communities’ needs; needs that are aligned with the poverty reduction strategy.
  • This is a need that has been prioritized by the community and in other planning and has the purpose of improving the access to and condition for education of our children

RESOURCES:

The following will be needed to build the school:

* A construction worker to build the school
* Cinder blocks
* Gutters
* Fiber roof tiles
* Cement
* Sand
The community is requesting the amount of Lps. 120,000.00 (one hundred and twenty thousand Lempiras) to implement this project.
